[ARCHIVED] Alleyways Resurfacing Project 2017

The City of Highwood will begin work to grind and resurface alleyways on Monday, April 17th, weather permitting.  Highwood will resurface alleyways that are behind the residential homes on North Avenue, Llewellyn Avenue, Burchell Avenue, Sheridan Avenue, Washington Avenue and on Lockard Lane connected to Washington Avenue.  The City of Highwood selected Pav-Tech, a local and responsible company who provided the best bid.  As these projects are directly next to many properties and will impact access to parking, we are asking for your assistance so we can complete this project as seamlessly as possible.

The total project will take approximately 5-7 working days.  Poor weather could extend this timeframe.  The first day or two you will notice the contractor use a machine to remove approximately 4 inches of asphalt roadway.  This will cause a height gap between the alley surface and the entrance to your garage or parking area.  Over the next two days the contractor will prepare this road base and fix any unstable areas beneath the surface.  On the final two days the contractor will pave the road with asphalt.

The police have been instructed to waive the overnight parking restrictions during this project.  If you choose to leave your car in the garage, you may not be able to get out at certain times during the project as large machinery could be blocking the way or crews could be fixing the base beneath the road.

Communication with residents is vital.  We encourage all residents to sign up to receive text/email alerts via our city website as this is the most efficient way to keep everyone informed and up to date on the project.  Signing up for the alerts is simple, and can be found on the home page at cityofhighwood.org “Notify Me”.  We also have a Facebook page, for those of you who participate, where we will be posting updates as well.  If you click ‘Like’ on our page our updates will show up in your news feed.

If you have questions on the project, please call City Hall at 847-432-1924.  Thank you for your patience throughout this project – we hope you are pleased with the result.
